Ahead of the start of their 115 Financial Fair Play, FFP, charges case, there is a proposal for Manchester City to be docked points “across multiple seasons”, according to the UK Telegraph.
Clubs in the top-flight feel a single points deduction would be enough punishment if City are found guilty, even if it results in relegation from the Premier League.
It is understood that one ‘senior figure’ in football is proposing points being docked across multiple seasons, in a bid to stop Pep Guardiola’s men from challenging for trophies and rising straight back into the top-flight.
This case hearing which begins on Monday is expected to last 10 weeks.
City were initially charged by the Premier League in February 2023, but their alleged offences cover a period between 2009-2018.
During that period, they won several league titles and other domestic trophies.
