Northern Groups Fault Wike’s Threats Against Bauchi PDP

The Coalition of Northern Group (CNG) has condemned the threat issued by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister Nyesom Wike against Bauchi State.

Recall that PDP Governors’ Forum had during their recent meeting in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, declared support for Fubara, who has been having a running political battle with the minister.
But, addressing the PDP stakeholders during the party state congress in Port Harcourt yesterday, Wike said: “Let me assure you, not while we live, will anybody take away the PDP structure from us.

“Let me tell you people; I hear that there are some governors who said they will take away the structure and give it to somebody. I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states.

“When God has given you peace, you said you don’t want peace; whatever you see, you take.”

CNG, in a statement signed by national coordinator, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, said Wike’s recent outburst on live television is a stark reminder of the dangerous and unrefined attitude he has consistently displayed in his political career.

“It is shocking and deeply unfortunate that a figure of such notorious repute holds a position in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government.”

He said Wike’s behaviour is not only an affront to the people of Bauchi State but also a direct challenge to the peace and stability of Northern Nigeria.

“The CNG wishes to make it clear that we do not take such threats lightly. No one has a monopoly on thuggery or intimidation. We are fully prepared to confront Wike and anyone who believes they can bully or destabilize our region.

“It is a tragedy for Nigeria that individuals with such a glaring lack of respect for the rule of law and civil discourse are appointed to high offices in our Federal Government. Wike’s actions have embarrassed the Tinubu administration and sullied the image of responsible governance,” he said.

The group therefore called on President Tinubu to urgently reconsider the inclusion of such volatile and unrefined elements in his government, saying the Nigerian people deserve leaders who will work towards unity and stability, not those who would threaten it with their bandit-like tactics.

He said the CNG remains steadfast in its commitment to defending Northern Nigeria against any form of aggression or intimidation, and are ready to respond with equal force to any threat posed by Wike or his ilk.
