Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has welcomed Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, DOGE, which is not an official government agency, to the Department of Defence, DOD.
According to Hegseth, DOD will partner with Musk and his team, adding that it is long overdue.
“When we spend dollars, we need to know where they’re going and why, and that has not existed at the Defence Department,” Hegseth told Fox News on Sunday.
“When we spend dollars, we need to know where they are going and why. That’s simple accounting, and that has not existed at the Defence Department, and we are going to fix that.
“But that is not even DOGE. We welcome Elon Musk and DOGE into our department to help us identify additional ways to streamline costs, fast-track acquisitions, cut waste, and reduce tail to put it to tooth.
“We know that in a world where America is, you know, $37 trillion in debt, resources will not be unlimited. Every dollar we can find that isn’t being spent wisely is one we can put towards warfighters.
“So we welcome DOGE at the DOD. We will partner with them, and it’s long overdue. The Defence Department has a huge budget—but it needs to be responsible.”
DAILY POST reports that US President Donald Trump had backed Musk and DOGE to swing into action to cut costs across agencies in the country.
The agencies include the US Treasury Department and the US Agency for International Development, USAID.

FUGUS matriculates 2,229 students amid security challenges, urges vigilance
The Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State has matriculated 2,229 students amid ravaging security challenges in the Northwest, emphasizing the need for vigilance within the institution.
The university’s management has been grappling with banditry, as bandits have repeatedly attacked the institution, kidnapping students and staff.
At the matriculation ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Muazu Abubakar, explained that out of 5,066 applicants, only 2,229 were admitted.
According to him, this is in line with the Federal Government’s policy, adding that science-related courses had the highest enrollment, with 1,030 students.
Abubakar urged the newly admitted students to remain vigilant and security-conscious in their daily activities.
The Vice-Chancellor emphasized the need for vigilance as 2,229 students matriculated, advising them to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to security agents or university authorities.
“I want to assure you that your security and privacy will be guaranteed,” he stated.
Abubakar warned that the university would not tolerate any form of misconduct, stressing that infractions such as examination malpractice, cultism, sexual harassment, theft, and drug abuse would be met with strict penalties as outlined in the student handbook.
He further reminded the students that only those formally matriculated are recognized as authentic students of the institution, underscoring the importance of upholding both academic and moral standards.
“Degrees are conferred only on graduates who are found worthy in both character and learning,” he stated. “Between today’s matriculation and your convocation, you will face various academic and personal challenges. Overcoming them will earn you the right to wear the academic gown again.”
