NSCDC strengthens partnership with FERMA to secure federal roads in Abia

The Abia State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has renewed its partnership with the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA, in boosting security on federal roads in the state

The development was disclosed by the Public Relations Officer of the Civil Defence, Abia Command, Doreen Udugwu in a press release on Tuesday.

According to the release, the Commandant of Abia NSCDC, Usman Alfadarai discussed a stronger working relationship between the two agencies during a meeting with the newly posted Federal Roads Maintenance Engineer of FERMA Abia State, Okafor Festus Obiora.

Speaking during the visit, the FERMA boss, Festus expressed gratitude for the support he received from NSCDC during the End Bad Governance protest and appreciated the Commandant for sending security personnel to ensure that properties were not vandalized.

Okafor sought a partnership with NSCDC to enhance the safety and security of federal roads, personnel, and users.

In response, the Abia NSCDC Commandant, Alfadarai assured FERMA of its unwavering commitment to supporting the agency’s mandate in maintaining the security and integrity of critical infrastructure in Abia State.

The Center for Justice and Peace, CJP, has disowned a statement calling for the arrest of the former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.

At a press briefing in Abuja, the Director General of the Center, Dr. Stephen Okparaibe, said some desperate politicians impersonated the group by issuing statements on its behalf.

Okpara described the individuals as paid agents, stating that they are bent on causing confusion.

He said the attempt by the individual to undermine the group’s “integrity and independence will not be tolerated.”

According to him, the purported statement contradicts the core values of the group, saying CJP would not call for the arrest of someone who had voluntarily surrendered himself to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

“We are shocked that desperate politicians would sponsor criminals to impersonate our organization and release malicious statements.

“This blatant attempt to undermine our integrity and independence will not be tolerated.

“If the EFCC, which declared Mr. Bello wanted, had him for over four hours and refused to arrest and prosecute him, how could we?” he said.
