The Export Processing Terminal (EPTs) is to be linked with the Domestic Export Warehouse (DEW), the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), has said.
It is meant to facilitate port-hinterland connectivity and create pathways for Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs).
Dr Abubakar Dantsoho, the Managing Director of NPA, made the disclosure at the 2024 Lagos International Trade Fair, titled, ‘Connecting Businesses, Creating Value”, in Lagos.
He explained, “the EPTs are to be linked with Domestic Export Warehouses (DEWs) in synergy with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) and relevant partners.”
According to him, the authority is aggressively pursuing full automation of the nation’s processes and procedures through the Ports Community System (PCS) which lays the groundwork for the implementation of the National Single Window (NSW).
He added that the EPTs were conceptualised in partnership with the Nigerian Exports Promotion Council (NEPC) to serve as a one-stop-shop for the stuffing, packaging and certification of export-bound cargo in quick turnaround time by eliminating the duplications and bureaucratic overlaps that previously rendered Nigerian exports uncompetitive in the international marketplace.
To facilitate Port-Hinterland connectivity and create pathways for Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) to play in the value chain, he said that the EPTs are to be linked with Domestic Export Warehouses (DEWs) in synergy with the NEPC and relevant partners.
He explained that the NSW is the global stratagem for delivering the greatest value with the greatest ease by connecting all stakeholders in the trade value chain for seamless interaction at the push of a button.

Ekiti Govt warns pig farmers against African swine fever
Ekiti State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Ebenezer Boluwade, has warned pig farmers to beware of the African swine fever.
The commissioner said the disease could cause an increase in the mortality rate of pigs, and adversely affect piggery businesses.
Boluwade, who gave the warning in an advisory made available to farmers and stakeholders in Ado-Ekiti, charged farmers to take preventive measures early enough to deal with the highly contagious viral disease.
According to him, such preventive measures include farmers stepping up the biosecurity measures on the farms, increasing plane nutrition to step up immunity, increasing the level of farm sanitation, and limiting visits to other farms.
Other measures to prevent the African swine fever, according to the commissioner, are slaughtering and processing of mature pigs to reduce the risk, awareness creation and strict warnings to farm attendants and workers and restriction of human and vehicular movements in and out of farms.
Boluwade further advised piggery farmers to also put in place a secured perimeter fence on farm premises and stopping the exchange or reuse of feed bags.
The commissioner emphasized the need for farmers to heed the warning in order to further consolidate the efforts being made by the Governor Biodun Oyebanji led administration to reduce hunger and ensure food security in Ekiti State.
