Immigration intercepts vehicle trafficking four girls to Senegal, others

Kebbi State Immigration Command Comptroller, Saidu Bashir Daura, has announced that his men rescued four girls and apprehended a vehicle involved in human trafficking to Senegal and other countries.

Speaking to journalists in his office in Kebbi, the Comptroller said his men on duty along Kamba Road flagged down a vehicle suspected of conveying trafficked victims.

Upon interrogation, Daura said the girls in the vehicle revealed that they had been deceived with promises of jobs in various foreign countries.

“However, the real aim was to whisk them out of their country and subject them to hard labor, sexual abuse, drugs, and other heinous acts. The girls were identified as three from Edo State and one from Delta State,” he added.

The Comptroller said further investigation revealed that the innocent girls were lodged in a hotel in Jegga for more than two days by one Shuaibu Salihu who happened to be their Nigerian agent.

“This Shuaibu has been in this evil business for more than fifteen years and he is now arrested to be dealt with according to the law,” he added.

The Comptroller maintained that the victims would be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons(NAPTIP) for more investigation and prosecution as directed by the constitution.

He advised parents and caregivers to “show keen interest regarding the whereabouts of their children and try to have a better knowledge of everyone connected directly or indirectly to the affairs of their children.”

While urging Nigerians, especially parents to remain vigilant and join security operatives in the fight against human trafficking, he advised the youths to engage in meaningful activities within the country and avoid falling prey to deception.

“Job promises are ways to lure them into contemptuous enslavement and untimely death,” the Comptroller laments,” he said.

Receiving the victims, the NAPTIP Commander, Kebbi chapter, Kabiru Abubakar Abdullahi promised to ensure that the perpetrators responsible for the trafficking will be investigated and prosecuted.

“The four victims would be tested, rehabilitated, trained, empowered and reunited to their families respectively,” he said.
