Emir of Ilorin demands investigation as man dies in police detention
The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has urged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to probe the circumstances surrounding the demise of Tunji Abdulquadri Jimoh in police detention.
The deceased reportedly died in detention at the Kwara State Police Command headquarters in Ilorin.
The monarch also appealed to relevant security agencies in the state to ensure strict enforcement of professionalism and compliance to global ethical practices in their engagements with members of the society.
The Emir expressed sadness over the demise of Jimoh in police custody on Saturday, describing it as “rude shock and regrettable incident seeing a promising young man died in such inhuman situation”.
In a statement released in Ilorin on Sunday by his spokesman, Abdul Azeez Arowona, the Emir commiserated with the family, friends and associates of the deceased.
He also appealed to residents of Ilorin and Kwarans at large to be safety conscious and ensure adequate protection of lives and property in their neighbourhood.
Alhaji Sulu-Gambari expressed sadness over the numerous fire outbreak incidences that occurred in Ilorin which claimed property worth several millions of Naira.
“It is unfortunate to see destruction of property at this critical period of economic trial,” he observed.
He sympathized with victims of the inferno and prayed that Almighty Allah will grant them the support that they desire to cope with the situation.
