Detectives attached to the Homicide Unit, Force Criminal Investigation Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja, have arrested one Ademola Balogun for alleged multiple murders and illegal possession of firearms.
Police sources said he was arrested in the Epe area of Lagos State yesterday morning, and that he was still being detained at Epe Division before onward transmission to Abuja.
According to sources, his arrest followed a petition, dated May 23, 2016, by one Abayomi Hassan, alleging the suspect, together with an armed gang and with the consent of a traditional ruler, murdered his father, Deacon Tayo Hassan, his mother, Mrs Margret Hassan, alongside his father’s driver and his father’s Personal Assistant on May 11, 2016, over a disagreement on ownership of a large expanse of land his father owned at Igbodu community in Epe.
After the gruesome murder, the suspect reportedly disappeared into thin air. It was gathered that while the police were yet exploring all leads towards arresting him, the suspect and gang members stormed the late Deacon Hassan’s family house at No 24 Afolabi Ekiyoyo Street, Solubo Estate, Ikorodu Lagos, on April 28, allegedly to kill Deacon Hassan’s son, Abayomi Hassan.
However, it was learnt that after a fruitless search for Abayomi, who luckily escaped by the whiskers, the gang angrily shot and killed Mrs Hassan Abayomi’s mother, and bolted away.
It was gathered that when his house was searched, the police recovered two rifles, cartridges and army camouflage.
At press time, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, was yet to react to the arrest.
However, a senior police source, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspect was being held in Lagos as a bait for the arrest of his gang members before he would be moved to Abuja for prosecution.
