The Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has received the Forbes Best of Africa Outstanding Leadership Award for the year 2024 in an event that was held at the Intercontinental Hotel Lisbon, Portugal.

Since assumption of office, Diri has not only stated his commitment to the holistic development of Bayelsa but also the teeming young population.

Diri has committed massive investment in infrastructure, opening up communities that were hitherto inaccessible to the state capital and other parts of Nigeria.

His innovative basic education transformation programme, BayelsaPRIME, has also ensured the democratisation of quality basic education to over 40,000 primary school children who would hitherto not have had access to quality education.

The programme has provided career uplifting teacher professional development training to almost 3,000 teachers and head teachers drawn from 2017 state-owned primary schools across four local government areas with expansion to other local government areas billed to occur in the next few months.

The governor, now serving his second term, continues to champion inclusive policies that promote sustainable development and empower communities. His commitment to transparency and accountability has earned him widespread acclaim, positioning Bayelsa as a model for good governance.

Also honoured at the event were Plateau State’s Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, and Osun State’s Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, who have also provided outstanding governance and people-centered leadership.

In attendance at the event were Miguel Henriques, MD of GoNeutral; Chinnan Maclean-Dikwal, Vice Chairman of the African Energy Council; Solomon Mwamba, CEO of Majestic Coin; Joschua Saphir, Global Ambassador of Mirozon Foundation; Linda Pereira, Senior Partner and Chairperson of Advantage Consultants Group; and Debo Ogunlami, President of Faction AI. Their presence highlighted the event’s significance as a platform for collaboration and investment in Africa’s future.
