APC dismisses NNPP threat, boasts Tinubu ‘ll return in 2027

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the threat by the opposition New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) that President Bola Tinubu will lose his re-election bid in 2027 poll due to the raging Kano emirshhip tussle.

State chairman of the party, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, in a statement yesterday in Abuja, boasted that the President is well rooted to reclaim his seat in the country’s next general elections.
 
Abbas said contrary to a media report credited to Kano State NNPP Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, “it is Governor Abba Yusuf and the national leader of the NNPP, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, that will suffer the consequences of the ongoing Emirship tussle negatively.”
 
Stating that Dungurawa’s position “spoke volume of NNPP’s dwindling fortunes in Kano and on the national scene,” the APC stalwart stated that his party is “now more united, popular and will deliver triple the votes Tinubu garnered at the 2023 poll.”
 
He said Kwankwaso’s presidential debut in 2023 was “deliberately intended to test his national outlook, remain relevant in the scheme of things, manipulate the way for his son in-law to have his way, and also to reclaim Kano from ruling APC.”

In the meantime, the NNPP leadership has described the purported suspension of Kwankwaso and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as nullity and laughable. 
 
Besides, the ruling party in Kano State explained that those behind the exercise were former members, who had since been expelled from the party. 
 
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of a factional NNPP, had slammed a six-month suspension on Governor Yusuf and expelled Kwankwaso from the party.
 
The purported resolution was contained in a communique issued on Sunday and jointly signed by Umar Jibrin and Omalara Johnson following the NEC meeting held on May 27 2024.
 
Addressing journalists on the controversial suspension, the state party chairman, Dr. Hashimu Sulaiman Dungurawa, wondered how a party would suspend its only governor and a foundation member without external influence. 
 
He hinted that the expelled members were equally being funded by interested party to destabilise the incumbent government for fear of intimidation.
