The Oyo State Government has announced that it is collaborating with neighboring states to secure its borders against bandits from the northern part of the country.
DAILY POST gathered that Governor Seyi Makinde of the state had earlier stated that some bandits from the northern part of the country are entering the South-West region through Oyo State.
Our correspondent reports that Oyo shares borders with Kwara, Ogun, and Osun states.
The Special Adviser to the state governor on Security, Fatai Owoseni, however, noted that the state government is partnering with its neighboring states to secure its borders against bandits.
Owoseni made this revelation while briefing journalists on the resolution of the state security council on Tuesday.
While addressing the press, Owoseni urged residents to go about their lawful activities without fear, assuring them that the state government would pull out all the stops to ensure their safety.
He assured residents that the government would leave no stone unturned in its efforts to secure the state.
Owoseni further noted that, to strengthen the state’s security network, the council would hold expanded meetings that would include local government chairmen as well as traditional rulers.
“The essence of this is to ensure that we take security to the grassroots. The local government administration is the third tier of government and is the closest to the people. In the same vein, traditional rulers are close to the people and know most people in their domains.
“By integrating them into the security network, we are taking security to the grassroots and carrying everyone along. Security is everybody’s business, and we all have a role to play in ensuring that our state is safe from the antics of bandits and other criminal elements.”
