There was pandemonium at the Ugbowo campus of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) on Wednesday as students of the institution took over the ever-busy Ugbowo-Lagos Express road to protest over power outage in the university, as well as lack of water supply to their hostels, among other issues.
The Guardian gathered that the students’ protest is to demand from the university management the urgent need to restore public electricity to the campus and water supply to students residing in the university hostels.
Other grievances include the increase in the transport fare of intra-campus shuttle bus services.
At the time of filing this report, the management of the university was yet to make an official statement on the protest by the students.
