Bauchi inaugurates committee to implement N70,000 minimum wage for civil servants
The Bauchi State Government has inaugurated a tripartite technical committee tasked with determining the modalities for the payment of the new national minimum wage to civil servants in the state.
The committee includes representatives from the state government, the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC.
Speaking after the State Executive Council meeting, held with leaders of the state’s labour unions, NLC Chairman Dauda Shu’aibu confirmed that a minimum wage of N70,000 had been agreed upon.
“We are here to brief you on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting held with the NLC and TUC regarding the new national minimum wage for 2024.
“Five key processes guide the implementation of the minimum wage. First, we negotiated and agreed on N70,000. The second step was legislation, which has passed through the House of Representatives and Senate.”
He continued: “Next is the President’s assent, followed by gazetting, which has been completed. Lastly, circulars were issued by the National Salaries and Wages Commission to all relevant MDAs across Nigeria.”
Shu’aibu also mentioned that the NLC national leadership had organized training sessions on negotiation strategies, which took place in both the northern and southern zones, specifically in Kano and Lagos.
The technical committee, he explained, comprises members representing various salary structures within the state.
DAILY POST reports that the committee is expected to begin its work immediately, with negotiations set to start on Monday. October 7, 2024, using all the necessary tools and circulars.
