Kano Assembly passes law to boost small, medium enterprises
The Kano State House of Assembly on Monday passed a law establishing an agency for the development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The initiative aims to enhance the growth of small industries, create employment opportunities, and reduce youth unemployment while boosting the state’s economy.
Speaking to journalists, the Majority Leader of the House, Lawan Hussaini Dala, stated that once the agency is established, the Kano State Government will provide necessary policies, equipment, and support to facilitate the growth of small industries.
In a related development, the Kano State House of Assembly is set to amend the law governing the issuance of land and property ownership certificates in the state.
The amendment seeks to streamline the process, ensuring that residents can acquire and renew their land documents without difficulties.
Presenting the motion during today’s plenary session, Majority Leader Lawan Hussaini Dala emphasized the need for the amendment, given the government’s efforts to improve the land administration sector.
He noted that specific sections related to fees for obtaining land ownership certificates require urgent revision.
The proposed amendment outlines regulations on land ownership and usage. It also affirms the authority of the federal and state governments over land while granting governors the power to approve land usage rights for individuals.
