IGP presents N47 million cheque to families of deceased officers in Kogi
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has presented cheques worth N48,681,738.48k to 22 families of deceased officers who died in active-service, as well as those who got injured through accident while carrying out official duty in Kogi State.
The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP William Ovye Aya, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, said the State Commissioner of Police, Bethrand Onuoha presented the cheques on behalf of the IGP.
He stated that the gesture was part of the welfare packages aimed at improving the welfare of the families of the deceased officers and to equally support officers who are victims of accident.
The statement added that the gesture was also to encourage other officers in active service to be diligent.
According to the Police PPRO, “The CP on behalf of the IGP expressed condolences to the families of the deceased officers and recognized the sacrifices made by fallen heroes.
“He further reiterates the IGP’s unwavering commitment to improving the welfare of officers, including those serving, retired, as well as deceased.
“He advised the accident victims to take care of themselves, while the deceased families should make use of the money to improve their families’ living condition”.

Coalition raises alarm over alleged move by politicians to blackmail judiciary
The Coalition Against Corruption and Injustice, CACI, in Nigeria, has raised concerns over alleged plots by some desperate politicians to compromise the independence of the Nigerian judiciary.
This followed a recent call by a group, Joint Action for Democracy, JAD, demanding the removal of Justice John Tsoho, Justice Peter Lifu, and Justice James Omotosho due to the political crisis rocking Rivers State.
DAILY POST reports that the three justices had in recent times issued orders regarding the crisis in Rivers State.
Reacting to the call for their removal, the coalition in a statement signed by Prince Livinus Itodo, accused loyalists of the Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara of masterminding the call.
According to the statement, the call by the Joint Action for Democracy, JAD, “is a thinly veiled attempt to undermine the judiciary’s integrity.”
The statement read: “The judiciary is a sacred institution, essential to our democratic system. Its independence and impartiality are non-negotiable. If we allow politicians’ tactics to succeed, the consequences will be far-reaching.
“The judiciary’s integrity will be compromised, leading to widespread disillusionment with the justice system. The independence of the judiciary is crucial to our democratic system.
“Compromising this independence will have devastating consequences for our democracy. A compromised judiciary will create an environment where injustice thrives and the rule of law is disregarded.”
