One dead in Third Mainland Bridge accident

One person has been declared dead in a fatal accident that occurred on the Third Mainland Bridge in the early hours of Saturday.

“A fatal accident occurred early this morning around 6:30 am on the Third Mainland Bridge by Unilag water front inward Iyana Oworonsoki with a life lost,” the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said.

LASTMA added that the accident involved a Mini Truck with registration number MUS 489 XS and a Toyota Camry car (KRD 470 JD).

It also said that its operatives are on ground managing the situation and controlling traffic under the rain.

Other emergency responders at the scene of the accident include officers of the Nigerian Police Force and the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU).

A LASTMA tow truck is also on ground to evacuate both vehicles to enable free flow of traffic on the Bridge.

“Say no to over speeding on the Third Mainland Bridge,” LASTMA said, advising drivers.

In an update on X, LASTMA said: “The road is now free after the recovery.
Please, drive safely on the Third Mainland Bridge always.”
