Director-General of the Nigerian Boundary Commission, NBC, Adamu Adaji, has charged stakeholders in Cross River and Abia states to support efforts to restore peace and security in border communities.
Speaking in Calabar at a meeting with top officials of both governments, Adaji
stated that the Commission’s focus over the years has been to re-establish the boundary in accordance with existing documents.
He assured that the NBC will properly delineate the affected communities in the two states.
“We inherited the boundary issue since 1990 which originated from the old Cross River/Imo boundary.
“Our past efforts have resulted in the tracing and provisional demarcation of the entire interstate boundary and the outcome resulted in the two states agreeing on the alignment in some sectors,” he said.
The NBC boss however disagreed with the grey sectors of Erei Farm settlement disputes, Abia, Achara and Biakpan communities and Mbiabong-Ito Arochukwu communities.
Chairman of Cross River State Boundary Committee, SBC, deputy governor, Peter Odey, represented by commissioner for lands in the state, Dr Francis Ekpenyong, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to peaceful coexistence.
Odey called for expedited efforts from stakeholders to settle the age-long boundary issues between both states, assuring of their collaboration and synergy with NBC.
He noted that the disputes have resulted in the loss of lives and property and dislocation of so many persons. According to him, the boundary lines are, in many cases, for administrative convenience.
Also speaking, deputy governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, said, “The time is now for NBC to intervene and resolve the lingering issues which have claimed lives and destroyed property worth millions of Naira.”
He also reaffirmed the state government’s determination to permanently end the intermittent bloodbaths arising from the boundary disputes.

DAILY POST reported that Musk’s influence before and after President-elect Donald Trump’s electoral victory in November has become a focus point for Democratic attacks.
Recall that Musk openly threw his support for Trump after a shooting at the former President’s rally in Pennsylvania.
Musk subsequently pumped an estimated $200 million into a Political Action Committee, PAC, supporting Trump.
But speaking in Arizona recently, Trump addressed the speculations, saying that the U.S. presidency will not be ceded to the X owner.
“And no, he’s not taking the presidency. He’s not going to be president, that I can tell you. You know why he can’t be? He wasn’t born in this country,” Mr Trump stressed.
The former President further slammed his political opponents for pushing the narrative, describing the speculations as a “hoax.”

The Visioner of African Jerusalem Ministry, Ibadan, Prophet Gideon Owoseni, has advised Nigerians not to listen to clerics who are making evil predictions about the country.
Owoseni noted that Nigeria will still be great and regain its lost glory because the country has the capacity to be a leading nation across the globe.
The cleric made these declarations while speaking at a press conference heralding the opening of the ministry in Ibadan on Wednesday.
Owoseni, who was flanked with other members of the ministry, said that clerics, political office holders and journalists have major roles to play for the country to move forward.
He cautioned those who are making evil predictions about the country.
“My presence here at the press conference is to express my feelings about the nation. I am the Visioner of African Jerusalem Ministry. This will be a grea advantage for the whole of Africa.
“People are hungry, people are in pain in Nigeria. There is no more discipline today. There are still prophets of God. I am weeping for Nigeria. People like darkness more than the light.
“But, Nigeria will still be great. We should not be discouraged about the situation now. Three people are destroying the country, the religious leaders, politicians and the journalists.
“People who are making evil predictions, do not listen to them again. Nigeria will still be peaceful. Let us say the truth. The masses should understand that Nigeria is a God’s country. Those who are making evil predictions about Nigeria should be cautioned.
“Journalists, the role you play are enormous. Journalists always investigate but you do not investigate again. You are not working the way you work before.
“They said Tinubu, Abacha and Buhari did not perform well. What role did the religious leaders play. I beg all of you to please promote peace. I see light as the future of Nigeria. There is a need for Nigeria to be be liberated,” he said.
