NCDC activates emergency centre as 53 die of cholera in 31 states

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control and Prevention has activated a National Cholera Mult-sectoral Emergency Operation Centre to coordinate the cholera outbreak response in the country.

Meanwhile, about 1528 suspected cases and 53 deaths have been recorded as of 24th June 2024, in 31 states and 101 local government areas with a fatality rate of 3.5 percent since the beginning of the year.

Lagos, the epic centre for the outbreak, recorded the highest number of cases.

NCDC Director General Dr. Jide Idris who disclosed this in Abuja, observed that the outcome of risk assessment placed the country at high of increased cholera transmission and impact.
