Hot SourceVice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has led a high-level government delegation to formally inform and commiserate with the families of the eight individuals who tragically perished in a helicopter crash earlier today.
In what has been described as a dark day in Ghana’s history, the Vice President was accompanied by senior government officials, national executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the Military High Command as they visited the homes of the bereaved to offer official condolences on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and the Government.
Among the homes visited were those of Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, and Alhaji Minuru Lumuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator.
In a parallel effort, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia led a separate delegation to Koforidua to mourn with the mother and family of Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Ghana’s Minister for Defence.
Two additional teams were dispatched to Takoradi to engage with the families of the helicopter crew. These included the families of Samuel Sarpong, NDC Vice Chairman, and Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
According to a statement released by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP and Minister for Government Communications, these outreach efforts reflect the government’s deep sorrow and commitment to supporting the grieving families during this national tragedy.
President Mahama has declared three days of national mourning beginning Thursday, 7 August 2025, with all flags to fly at half-mast until further notice.
The country remains in shock as investigations into the cause of the fatal crash continue.
