Senior Research Fellow, Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Kester Onor, says the war on terrorism in Nigeria cannot be won with a kinetic approach, stressing that United States’ boots on the ground is not the solution.
Onor made this statement on Tuesday, while responding to questions in an interview on Arise Television monitored by DAILY POST.
His comment is coming after US President Donald Trump designated Nigeria as ‘Country of Particular Concern’ over the allegation of Christian genocide in Nigeria.
The US President also had asked the Defence Department to prepare for possible military action in Nigeria if the Nigerian government “continues to allow the killing of Christians”.
“As a nation, we must acknowledge the United States’ interest in our affairs. It is essential that we continue to engage with the American government, despite recent rhetoric from President Trump.
“Terrorism is not a problem that one country can solve alone; we must maintain a dialogue with the U.S. to find a sustainable solution,” he said.
