President Bola Tinubu has officially sent a letter to the House of Representatives, requesting their approval for declaring a state of emergency in Rivers State.

This was confirmed by the spokesperson for the House of Representatives, Akin Rotimi, on Tuesday.

According to him, Tinubu’s letter will be ready on the floor of the House on Wednesday, March 19 and further legislative action will be debated and decided.

Rotimi said, “The leadership of the National Assembly met with Mr. President and the National Security Adviser ahead of the broadcast.

“Key security chiefs were also present and were fully briefed on the situation. All parties unanimously expressed their support.

“The letter will be read on the floor of the House during plenary on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

“Further legislative action will be debated and decided on the floor.”

The president suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, for six months.

Tinubu also suspended all elected members of the House of Assembly of Rivers State and nominated Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as Administrator to take charge of the affairs of the state.
