State of emergency: Armed military officers take over Rivers Govt House

Armed military men have taken over the Rivers Government House in Port Harcourt, after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency on Tuesday night.

Tinubu took the decision following the political crisis in the state.

The president also suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, for an initial period of six months.

All elected members of the House of Assembly of Rivers State have been suspended too.

Tinubu nominated Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as Administrator to take charge of the affairs of the state.

Following this announcement in a nationwide broadcast, military officers fully loaded in trucks took over the entrance of the Government House.

Tinubu’s broadcast came hours after a meeting with his service chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
