Hot SourcePresident John Dramani Mahama has relieved Dr George Akuffo Dampare of his duties as Inspector-General of Police (IGP), appointing his deputy, Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohunu, as the new IGP.
The announcement was made in a press statement issued by the presidency on Friday, March 13, and signed by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
According to the statement, the appointment was made in line with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution, following consultation with the Council of State.
This leadership change comes as the government takes steps to restructure key security institutions in the country.
COP Yohunu, a veteran law enforcement officer with over 40 years of experience, assumes the role of IGP at a pivotal time when the Ghana Police Service is undergoing significant reforms.
The government expressed its full confidence in Yohunu’s ability to lead the service with professionalism, aiming to strengthen security and ensure greater efficiency across the nation.
The appointment signals a new phase for the Ghana Police Service under the Mahama administration, which is focused on improving the effectiveness and integrity of the country’s security apparatus.
