The Ghana Police Service has dismissed widespread rumours suggesting that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has passed away.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Service described the speculation as “false”, “malicious”, and “insensitive”, urging the public to disregard the claims.
“The attention of the Ghana Police Service has been drawn to some speculation that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, is deceased. We wish to categorically state that these reports are false,” the statement said.
It emphasised that the IGP is “alive and well” and continues to discharge his mandate without interruption.
The Service further called on officers, family members, loved ones, and the general public to ignore the misinformation and rely on official communication channels for credible updates.
In a strong caution to those behind the fabricated reports, the Police noted that the deliberate spread of disinformation is an offence, adding that individuals found culpable will be prosecuted.
The statement urged the public to act responsibly, especially in the digital space, to avoid creating unnecessary tension or panic.
