The Gombe State Police Command has dismissed a social media report alleging an attack on ECWA Church, Kashere, in Akko Local Government Area.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, in a statement on Sunday, described the claim as “entirely false” and warned against spreading unverified information.
He said senior officers immediately contacted a church elder after the report circulated widely across social platforms.
According to him, the elder confirmed no incident occurred during the second segment of the Hausa service.
He added that police officers were present at the church throughout Sunday, providing routine security protection.
“The command wishes to categorically debunk and dismiss as entirely false the circulating report alleging an attack on ECWA Church,” Abdullahi said.
He described the rumour as irresponsible and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents and worshippers.
Abdullahi said the source of the misinformation would be investigated with a view to taking appropriate action.
He urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding and supportive of measures taken to secure the state.
He stressed that the command remained committed to the safety and security of all communities across Gombe State.
The false claim alleged an attack on the church and the abduction of worshippers in the area.
The rumour spread widely on Sunday, heightening fear among residents and church members across the state. (NAN)
