The Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Mr. Godwin Kudzo Tameklo (Esq.), has called for a collaborative effort to ensure the quick and efficient implementation of the 24-hour economy policy in the country’s downstream petroleum industry.
That, he said, was crucial to create more jobs in the sector in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision to create more employment for the citizenry.
Mr. Tameklo made the call on Thursday at the second meeting of the Steering Committee for the 24-Hour Economy Initiative in the Petroleum Downstream Sector at the NPA headquarters in Accra.
The steering committee is to provide oversight, strategic direction, and coordination for the implementation of the 24-hour economy programme in the downstream petroleum sector.
Mr. Tameklo, who is the Chairman of the Steering Committee, said the 24-hour economy in the downstream petroleum sector “is critical to the President’s vision.”
“The President believes in what the NPA can do to make it a reality. My firm belief is that the members will do everything within their power to make it a reality. Many young people will benefit from the value addition to the economy”, he said.
The NPA Boss said some of the issues that needed to be addressed to facilitate the implementation of the 24-hour economy were structural and infrastructural.
He affirmed his commitment to lead the process towards fixing the structural and infrastructural issues to ensure the efficient implementation of the 24-hour economy in the downstream petroleum sector.
In his presentation, the Director of the 24-hour Policy Secretariat of the Ghana Police Service, Chief Superintendent Benjamin Aniah, said the police had outlined measures to provide effective security to ensure seamless implementation of the 24-hour economy policy.
He said the aim to use intelligence and technological tools to protect personnel, assets, and data from physical and cyber attacks.
