Legendary Nigerian actor, writer, lawyer and producer Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) has expressed deep concern over the rising spate of violent attacks in parts of Nigeria, describing the situation as a national tragedy that can no longer be ignored.
In a heartfelt message shared on his Facebook page, the veteran actor said his “heart is heavy,” reflecting on a series of recent incidents including the kidnapping of twenty-five schoolgirls and the killing of a school vice principal, followed by yet another deadly attack on a church community in Kwara State.
Mofe Damijo said the continuing violence, especially against Christian communities in the North and Middle Belt—has left families shattered and communities traumatised. He noted that the commentary of Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo, a prominent Christian leader, has further highlighted the urgency of the situation.
According to him, the latest attack is “a wound to our collective soul,” stressing that innocent people who gathered in peace were met with violence they did not deserve. “For what? For practising their faith? For daring to seek God?” he wrote.
The award-winning actor cautioned against what he described as a growing normalisation of violence. He criticised what he sees as silence, evasive responses and ineffective measures, insisting that Nigeria cannot continue to watch as citizens live in fear in their own country.
“This is not politics, this is humanity,” Mofe Damijo said. “When one community is hunted, all of us are diminished.”
He called on Nigerian authorities to ensure justice for the victims and to prioritise the protection of vulnerable communities. He urged leaders to act decisively, warning that “history is watching.”
“To the grieving families, may God hold you close,” he added, calling for a collective national resolve to end the cycle of violence. “Nigeria must stop bleeding. We must say enough, loudly and clearly, until something truly changes.”
