The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has sworn in the Governing Board of the newly established Ghana Medical Trust Fund.
The swearing in on Monday, 13 October 2025, came with a call on members to demonstrate integrity, confidentiality and unwavering commitment in delivering on their mandate.
Administering the Oath of Office and Secrecy in line with the Ghana Medical Trust Fund Act, 2025, the Minister underscored the urgent need for a coordinated national response to the growing burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), which he noted account for an estimated 43 to 45 percent of deaths across the country.
Mr. Akandoh said the Trust Fund is expected to drive equity in the distribution of specialists, diagnostic services and critical health resources, particularly in underserved regions.
He added that its implementation will support training institutions, enhance health infrastructure and strengthen accountability within the healthcare system.
“I am confident that under the capable leadership of Mr Tony Lithur and the collective expertise of the new Board, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund will make a lasting impact on our nation’s health system,” the Minister said.
Chairman of the Board, Mr Tony Lithur, in his response, assured the Ministry of their readiness to work with urgency and diligence to promote equitable access to quality healthcare for all Ghanaians.
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund, according to the Ministry, is expected to become a strategic national mechanism for improving resource allocation and sustainability within the health sector.
