Hot SourceThe Kebbi State Government has dismissed reports claiming the state ranked last in the 2025 National Examinations Council, NECO, performance rating.
Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Halima M. Bande, in a statement over the weekend, described the report as misleading, noting that public schools in the state stopped participating in NECO examinations in 2022, opting instead for the West African Examinations Council, WAEC.
“For the past four years, public schools in Kebbi State have not taken part in NECO examinations. Therefore, any attempt to rank Kebbi in NECO 2025 is baseless and lacks credibility,” she said.
Bande explained that only a few private schools in the state still register students for NECO, stressing that their limited results could not represent the overall performance of Kebbi’s education sector.
“The criteria used in ranking Kebbi State last are inaccurate and faulty. Since our public schools were not part of NECO, no genuine comparison can be made,” she added.
