A Public Affairs Analyst, Dickson Iroegbu, has condemned the process that brought Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Iroegbu, who made this statement on Friday while responding to questions in an interview on Arise Television, said the process is already flawed.

DAILY POST recalls that the National Council of State approved the nomination of Prof Amupitan from the North-Central as the new Chairman of INEC.

“I have no special expectation from the process that is already flawed. First, the person who is appointed as the new INEC chair has never accepted that the process that led to his nomination was flawed.

“In 2007 when late former president Umar Yar’Adua was elected, he boldly told the world that the election that brought him to power was flawed and that he would commence the process of reforms and he did.

“For me the process that brought this man as new INEC chairman was flawed because at the Council of State meeting, how many Heads of State were there?

“So it is the umpire appointed by his boss, and I don’t expect any miracle from Amupitan, but I hope he proves us wrong because INEC is such a place that no matter how impeccable you are and you get in there, you get smeared and you lose the sense of pride and self-preservation,” he stated.
