The Tiv people in Nasarawa State have called on President Bola Tinubu, Governor Abdullahi Sule, and civil society organisations to intervene in the alleged seizure of their ancestral farmlands in Awe, Keana, and Obi Local Government Areas.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Sunday, Philip Nongu, President of Mdzough U Tiv, raised alarm over what he described as an orchestrated attempt to displace Tiv farmers under the pretense of agricultural projects.

Nongu alleged that over 10,000 hectares of cultivated farmland are being targeted for seizure, claiming that some government officials and traditional rulers are behind the move.

“For centuries, land has been integral to the livelihood of the Tiv people. We cannot stand by while our people are systematically dispossessed of their farmlands,” he said.

The Tiv leader urged the federal and state governments to halt the alleged land grabbing, investigate those responsible, and ensure justice for affected farmers.
