In Reciprocation for FG’s 4% Levy Suspension, Air Peace Creates 1,000 Jobs With Graduate Training Programme

Nigeria’s largest carrier, Air Peace, has announced the creation of 1,000 fresh graduate jobs through its 2025/2026 Graduate Trainee Programme, in reciprocation for the federal government’s suspension of the 4% Free on Board (FOB) levy on imports.

The Chairman of Air Peace, Dr. Allen Ifechukwu Onyema, in a statement commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, for listening to the concerns of industry stakeholders and taking bold steps that safeguard millions of jobs nationwide.

Dr. Onyema emphasized that this suspension is a lifeline for the aviation industry, which operates under unique global cost structures, and prevents economic pressures that could have crippled airlines and triggered job losses.

According to him, Air Peace is responding to this government gesture by investing directly in young Nigerians:

“Just as the government has acted to protect jobs and support businesses, Air Peace is reciprocating this kind gesture by creating 1,000 fresh graduate jobs. If further supportive measures like this come from the federal government, I can assure you that thousands more jobs will be created in the aviation sector. This is how partnerships between government and the private sector can transform a nation,” Dr Onyema said.

The Graduate Trainee Programme is designed to equip young Nigerians with the skills, exposure, and mentorship required to thrive in aviation and allied industries, while also building a pipeline of competent professionals who will drive growth in the sector.

Programme Requirements:Applicants must not be older than 30 years at the date of application, a minimum of Second Class Lower Degree from an accredited university, NYSC Discharge Certificate / Exclusion Letter / Exemption Letter is required and candidates must demonstrate passion, adaptability, and a strong desire to learn.

Registration starts immediately and closes on the 30th of this month.

    The Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dr Dennis Otuaro, has  visited the Julius Berger Nigeria Plc Associated Furniture Producers (AFP) Showroom and its industrial factory in Abuja as part of efforts to deepen implementation of the programme’s objectives.

     He  also visited PrimeTech, an international firm with a primary focus on sustainable design and construction of buildings, industries, civil structures, roads and infrastructure.

     Otuaro  was conducted round the facilities by the General Manager of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc AFP, Oliver Cohnen, and Julius Berger’s Head of Corporate Security and Compliance, Poul Nielsen, during the visit.

    According to him,  the move was aimed at exploring avenues for the PAP to carry out high-quality training of ex-agitators and beneficiaries in furniture and woodwork, and sustainable architectural design and engineering solutions with global standards and taste.

     The PAP helmsman stressed that his goal was to ensure that beneficiaries of such huge industrial-scale training would use the vocational skills and knowledge they would gain to add real value to the socio-economic development of the Niger Delta and indeed Nigeria.

    He noted that when the ex-agitators and beneficiaries are equipped with the right expertise in a structured environment, they will produce products that meet international standards with high marketability.

    Otuaro  expressed satisfaction at the incredible finishing and creativity, exquisite outlook and texture of the furniture and their high potential for durability.

    He reiterated that President Bola Tinubu had given him a mandate to take the programme to the people of the region.

    According to him, seeking the appropriate facilities to get many youths trained and re-trained in critical vocational trade areas was one of the ways of realizing the president’s desire.

    He said: “My interest is that our youths have to add value to the social-economic growth of the Niger Delta and that of the country. They can do this effectively when they acquire high-quality training that will make them to be useful to themselves, the region and the nation.

    “I decided to undertake the visits to these facilities to enable me to see things for myself to be able to take the right decision on the vocational initiative I have for ex-agitators and beneficiaries of the PAP in the areas of furniture and woodwork, and designs.

    “I am pleased with the top-class industrial equipment, high-quality furniture and the huge factory I have seen here and the fact that they have international appeal. This means that if our people are able to acquire the right vocational skills here, they will be able to produce furniture of international standards.”

    Taiwan Renews Push for Inclusion in UN, ICAO Meetings

    As the United Nations (UN) marks its 80th anniversary and the world races against time to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Taiwan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lin Chia-lung, has renewed calls for the country’s inclusion in the UN system, urging the international body to fulfill its pledge of “leaving no one behind.”

    Minister Lin, in a statement yesterday, stressed that Taiwan is a “key player and indispensable partner in the Indo-Pacific region,” actively contributing to global peace, stability, and prosperity. He argued that Taiwan’s exclusion is based on a misinterpretation of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758, which he said “neither mentions Taiwan nor grants the People’s Republic of China the right to represent Taiwan in the UN system.”

    Highlighting Taiwan’s economic and technological significance, Minister Lin noted that the island is the world’s 21st-largest economy and produces over 60 percent of the world’s semiconductors, including 90 per cent of its most advanced chips.

    “This economic strength fuels global growth and makes Taiwan an indispensable partner for development in fields ranging from artificial intelligence to digital governance,” he said.

    The foreign minister added that Taiwan remained committed to defending democratic values. He referenced President Lai Ching-te’s Four Pillars of Peace action plan, which aims to strengthen defence, resilience, and dialogue with China “on the basis of parity and dignity.”

    In addition to the UN push, Taiwan Minister of Transportation, Chen Shih-kai, also pressed for the country’s participation in the forthcoming International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Assembly. He said Taiwan’s absence undermines global aviation safety, despite the country’s long-standing compliance with ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices.

    “As a stakeholder in the international aviation community, Taiwan shares in the responsibility to safeguard regional and global aviation safety,” Minister Chen said. “With meaningful participation, Taiwan can contribute its professional expertise in pursuit of ICAO’s vision of safer skies and a more sustainable future.”

    The ICAO is set to convene its 42nd Assembly under the theme “Safe Skies, Sustainable Future,” where Taiwan hopes its case for inclusion will gain broader international support.
