Gyakie’s After Midnight album featured on Times Square

Ghanaian Afro-fusion singer Gyakie has chalked another major international milestone as her new album After Midnight beams high on New York’s iconic Times Square billboard. The dazzling feature is part of Spotify’s global EQUAL campaign, which spotlights outstanding female voices across the world.

The giant digital display, seen daily by hundreds of thousands of pedestrians in Manhattan, carries Gyakie’s striking image alongside the After Midnight artwork. For the 24-year-old songbird, it is a proud moment that underscores the growing power and reach of Ghana’s music scene.

Spotify’s EQUAL initiative was launched to promote gender equity in the music industry, giving exceptional female artistes a global stage. Gyakie’s inclusion places her in the league of contemporary African acts whose music is now shaping playlists far beyond the continent.

Industry watchers say the Times Square highlight signals a new level of international attention for the silky-voiced performer, who first broke out with her 2020 hit “Forever”. Since then, Gyakie has toured Europe, collaborated with top African stars, and consistently pushed the boundaries of Afro-fusion.

Speaking after news of the billboard broke, fans on social media hailed the achievement as another “win for Ghana”, describing it as proof that the country’s creative talents can stand tall on any global platform.
