Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has urged Palestinians in Gaza to rebuild their homes with stronger defenses following the recent ceasefire.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, Gumi described the people of Gaza as victors in the conflict, despite the destruction caused by the war.
He said the ceasefire marked a form of divine intervention, adding that “God has many ways of giving victory.”
Gumi also criticised US President Donald Trump, accusing him of fuelling the conflict in pursuit of global recognition.
“As for the Gazans, insha’Allah, you’ll recover in two years. You have won the war. No territory lost, no kh___s obliterated. This time, they should build bunkers that resist even a nuclear detonation, even though no one can use a nuclear device in the whole Middle East,” he said.
The cleric’s remarks come as Palestinians return to Gaza to find their homes and possessions destroyed following the announcement of a ceasefire.
