The police in Delta State have arrested four of the six-man gang connected with a series of armed robbery incidents in Warri, Sapele, and Western Delta University, Oghara, in Ethiope West Local Council of the state.

The Guardian learnt that the suspects specialised in breaking into churches, companies and warehouses while armed with guns.They invaded the university on June 20, 2024.

Spokesperson for the command, SP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the arrest said: “Following the armed robbery operations carried out by the suspects, at the Western Delta University, Oghara, the State Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, directed that the case be transferred to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ekpan Division, CSP Aliyu Shaba, for a discreet investigation.

“The DPO, in compliance with the CP’s directive, swiftly embarked on an intelligence-led operation on June 24, at about 6:30p.m., trailed the suspects to a hotel in Aziza Junction Sapele Road, and arrested one Okoro Udochukwu, ‘m’, 36, of Ore II Community and one Sunday Dickson, ‘m’, 32 of Ore II Community.”

Edafe explained that the suspects led the police to the arrest of Arinze Ezisi, ‘m’, 44, of Okumaga community, and one Titus Chinedu, ‘m’, 47, of Okumaga community, the receivers of all the stolen properties.

He said the police diligently conducted a search at their stores/houses and recovered 38 bags of rice, one silver crest blender, one inverter engine with two inverter batteries, and three Sharp photocopying machines, among others.

He further revealed that the suspects allegedly robbed a warehouse in Warri, stole 120 bags of rice, and sold some. Edafe said the suspects confessed to carrying out their operations with two Sienna vehicles and one shuttle bus, adding that “efforts are on to arrest other members of the gang, to recover their operational vehicles”.
