Hot SourceThe Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested four people in connection with a shooting incident that occurred during the burial and funeral rites of six family members at Asamankese in the Eastern Region.
According to a police statement issued on Sunday, October 26, 2025, the incident resulted in injuries to six civilians and three police officers.
Police said they received information that some individuals were conveying guns and cartridges to a room near the chief’s palace. A team was dispatched to the scene, leading to the arrest of four suspects identified as Isaac Ntim Nana Yaw Zenyo, Bismark K. K. Adam, and Buaben Richard. Officers retrieved one single-barrel gun, 84 live AAA cartridges, seven cutlasses, and two knives.
However, some agitated youth reportedly attacked the police team with stones and other implements, injuring three officers and damaging two police vehicles.
The statement further noted that the youth blocked the Asamankese–Akroso road and fired guns indiscriminately around the chief’s palace, allegedly over disagreements about burying the deceased in the royal cemetery.
Six civilians — identified as David Odame, 28; Musah Gyakwel, 29; Patrick Ofosu; Obeng Emmanuel, 18; and Asamoah Sey, 18; with one other yet to be identified — sustained gunshot wounds during the chaos.
Police say investigations are ongoing, and calm has since been restored to the area.
