The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has provided free medical services to over 1000 residents of Kuje Area Council as part of activities to commemorate 2024 Democracy Day.

The outreach, tagged Renewed Hope Free Medical Outreach”, was the brainchild of the FCTA’s Mandate Secretary for Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, in celebrating the day with residents of the area.

FCTA also distributed 500 cooking gas cylinders to pregnant women to promote healthy cooking, protect the environment, and improve the quality of life of the people.

The event was also an initiative to mark the first year of President Bola Tinubu’s government.

Speaking at the event, Minister of State for FCT, ,Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, said that President Bola Tinubu is working to improve the nation’s health indices, adding that it is unacceptable for a woman to die due to pregnancy or labor complications, or for any child to die a preventable death.

She explained that the initiative aimed to provide affordable and quality health care services to the residents of Kuje and its environs stressing that the FCT is committed to addressing the alarming rates of maternal mortality by ensuring timely and quality healthcare for pregnant women.

Mahmoud who was represented by the Mandate Secretary for Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, stated that the present federal government led by President Tinubu and the FCT administration, led by

Nyesom Wike have zero tolerance policies on health challenges.

She said: “Today, we have six different departments: antenatal care for pregnant women, general outpatients care, pediatrics, eye and dental care. We also have health insurance that will guarantee continued access to health services after today. The plan of this government is to renew hope. We have assured over 1,000 people here that our doctors and services are very fast. Nobody will leave here unattended.”

The minister noted that the President has given a clear directive that healthcare must be accessible, affordable, and available to every citizen adding that the cornerstone of the outreach is the FCT free health insurance scheme, which offers comprehensive care for pregnant women and their children up to one year old”.

Speaking on the provision of 500 cooking gas, Dr. Fasewe explained that, “We are promoting clean cooking to reduce health risks from smoke and pollution, the outreach also addresses environmental health, aligning with the Health and Environment Secretariat’s mission”.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, FCTA’s Health Services and Environment Secretariat,

Dr. Babagana Adams assured that provision of affordable and quality healthcare services in the nation’s capital city would be sustained.

Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Abdullahi Sabo, speaking at the event through his deputy,thanked the president and the FCT Minister over the various projects that they have brought to the capital city.

“The good people of Kuje Area Council are happy with your developmental projects across the FCT. We will continue to support you by complementing your efforts at our level and remaining agents of the renewed hope agenda of Mr. President, “he said.

The Gomo of Kuje, Alhaji Haruna Jibrin, thanked the FCTA for the initiative,describing it as ” the first of its kind in Kuje Area Council. ”
