ECOWAS and Gaston Berger University launch mental health promotion initiative in Senegal

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and Gaston Berger University in Saint-Louis, Senegal, have launched a joint initiative to promote mental health and strengthen human capital development.

The programme was officially opened on 9 and 10 October 2025 under the leadership of Ambassador Zelma Nobre Fassinou, ECOWAS Resident Representative in Senegal. The activities were organised ahead of World Mental Health Day and are supported by the West African Health Organisation (WAHO).

According to ECOWAS, the initiative aims to raise awareness within the university community about the role of psychological well-being in human capital development. The event highlighted mental health, resilience and inclusion as key elements in improving student welfare and academic productivity.

ECOWAS says the collaboration reaffirms its commitment to supporting universities in the region in implementing practical initiatives centred on mental health. The launch recorded active participation from academic authorities, health officials and members of the ECOWAS Club of Gaston Berger University.

The programme falls within ECOWAS’ broader regional framework that places citizen well-being and human capital development at the core of its social and educational priorities.

    DVLA to introduce biometric International Driver’s Licenses in 2026

    The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced plans to introduce biometric International Driver’s Licenses (IDLs) and International Vehicle Permits (IVPs) from 2026, as part of efforts to align Ghana’s transport documentation with global standards.
