The Headmaster of Dabala Senior High Technical School (DASTECH) at Dabala in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region, Mr David Korbla Kattah, has appealed to parents and the general public to send their children to the school. Speaking with our newsteam in an interview at Dabala, Mr. Kattah said the school has more vacancies for the first-year students.
DASTECH is one of the four (4) second cycle institutions in the South Tongu District. Even though the school has some infrastructural challenges to deal with, its academic performance at the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) level has been encouraging over the years.
In the current admission of first year students into the school, DASTECH declared 635 vacancies for the freshers out of which the Computerized School Selection & Placement System (CSSPS) placed 595 students in the school. Out of the number, more than 300 freshers have successfully gone through the registration out of which more than 200 students have reported to school.
The Headmaster of the school, Mr David Korbla Kattah told our newsteam in an interview that he is optimistic that the rest of the students would report in earnest to go through the registration and admission formalities. He used the opportunity to appeal to parents and the general public to send their wards to DASTECH, assuring that vacancies exist for such first-year students.
Mr. Kattah also expressed the hope that government would expedite action on the infrastructural expansion agenda of the school in order to further improve the school environment for more effective teaching and learning to take place.
The Headmaster, disclosed that DASTECH is in dire need of a dining hall complex, boarding facilities for boys and girls, an administration block, library and a well-equipped Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) laboratory. According to him, the provision of the above facilities would go a long way not only to give a total facelift to DASTECH but also positively impact on its academic performance in the coming years.
Two of the first years, Miss Grace Dede Hedey from Ashaiman and Master Joel Arhin from Oyarifa in Accra spoke with our newsteam. They described their new school environment as friendly and encouraging, adding that both the teachers and the students have so far been nice and good to them.
DASTECH currently runs seven programmes of study. These are General Science and Agriculture, Visual and General Arts and Technical courses as well as Business and Home Economics.
