The Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended two suspects in connection with separate motorcycle robbery incidents in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, confirming the arrests of Haruna Alhaji Yusuf and Magaji Mohammed for their alleged involvement in violent thefts targeting commercial motorcyclists.

According to the statement, the first incident occurred on March 5, 2025, at about 8:20 p.m., when a commercial motorcyclist, Idris Ya’u, 22, of Gwani village, Fagam town, was attacked while transporting a passenger from Gwani to Haya village.

“At a point between the two villages, the passenger asked the rider to stop under the pretense of answering a phone call. He then struck the rider on the head with a stick, rendering him unconscious, and fled with his Bajaj red motorcycle, registration number TRN 704 QL Kano,” the PPRO stated.

Following investigations, police operatives arrested Haruna Alhaji Yusuf, 30, of Kafin Tugga village, on March 12, 2025, at about 6:00 a.m., in possession of the stolen motorcycle. The suspect has since confessed to the crime.

In a related development, on March 13, 2025, at about 7:40 p.m., police officers on routine patrol near Jigawa State Legislative Quarters responded to a distress call and discovered an unconscious man identified as Yunusa Suleman, 30, of G-9 Quarters.

The statement revealed that Suleman was attacked by an unidentified suspect who stole his motorcycle. He was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment, while security operatives and vigilantes launched a manhunt for the perpetrators.

“Acting swiftly, the police arrested Magaji Mohammed, 30, of Babaldu town, in possession of a motorcycle. Further investigations revealed that he had hired the cyclist under the pretext of needing a ride to the Unity Pentagon roundabout near the Government House.

“Upon arrival at Dasina Quarters, his accomplice, Suleiman Nasaru of Ningi LGA, Bauchi State (now at large), attacked the rider with a hammer, knocking him unconscious before stealing the motorcycle,” the statement read.

Additionally, another victim, Idris Abdulaziz of Jigawar Tsada, identified Mohammed as the individual who robbed him of his Boxer motorcycle near Matrix Filling Station along Ibrahim Aliyu Bypass on March 12, 2025.

The police assured that investigations into both cases are ongoing and that all suspects will be prosecuted accordingly.
