The High Court has reviewed and reduced the bail conditions of Osei Assibey Antwi, former Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), lowering the amount from GHC800 million to GHC623 million.
All other bail requirements remain unchanged.
The decision followed an appeal by Antwi’s legal team, who described the initial GH¢800 million bail as “excessive and impracticable.”
According to the defence, meeting the original condition would have required pledging several high-value properties in Accra or more than a thousand houses in Kumasi.
They argued that such terms defeated the essence of bail, especially since the accused had already surrendered his passport and was on a no-flight list.
The prosecution, led by Dufie Prempeh from the Office of the Attorney-General, opposed the application for variation, maintaining that the original amount was reasonable given the scale of the alleged financial loss.
In its ruling, the court acknowledged the seriousness of the charges but agreed that the revised amount of GHC623 million was a more “practicable and fair” figure while still ensuring the accused’s availability for trial.
All other bail conditions—including the provision of sureties and property pledges—remain in effect.
The case forms part of ongoing proceedings in which Osei Assibey Antwi faces charges of stealing, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the State to the tune of GHC1.4 billion.
His deputy, Gifty Oware Mensah, was earlier granted bail set at GHC10 million.
