Breaking: Doyen of the Boardroom and Seasoned Broadcaster, Christopher Kolade, Dies at 93
Doyen of the boardroom, seasoned broadcaster and diplomat, Dr. Christopher Kolade, is dead.
He died on Wednesday at 93.
In a statement on Thursday, the family said: “With gratitude to God for a life dedicated to the service of God and humanity, we announce the passing to glory of Ambassador (Dr.) Christopher Kolade. May his soul rest in peace.
“We are thankful for his incredible life of faith and service and are grateful for God’s abundant blessings.”
Dr. Kolade, was the Chancellor of McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, Nigeria.
He is a respected Nigerian diplomat and seasoned academic.
Born in Erin–Oke, Osun State, Nigeria in 1932, Dr. Kolade attended Government College, Ibadan and later proceeded to Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, for Bachelor of Arts.
He became a broadcaster and later rose to the position of Director–General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC).
Aside from journalism, he was formerly a Chief Executive and Chairman of Cadbury Nigeria Plc.
He also served Nigeria, distinctively, as High Commissioner to The United Kingdom.
Dr. Kolade was a one-time Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos.
He served in many national and international bodies, having been President of The Nigerian Institute of Management (1985–88), The Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (1988–93), The International Institute for Communications (1973–75) and The World Association for Christian Communication (1975–82) among others.
He received the medal of the Order of St. Augustine from the Archbishop of Canterbury (1981), and is also a Lay Canon of the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in the Diocese of Guildford.
He was a former Chairman of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment
Programme Board.
He held honorary doctorate of McPherson University (2016), University of
Sierra Leone (1976) among others.
Dr. Kolade was at the vanguard of promoting business integrity in Nigeria through his chairmanship of organizations such as The Convention on Business Integrity;
Managing Business for Christ (MBFC) and participated regularly in the activities of Apostle in the Market Place (AiMP).
