Somtochukwu died during an armed robbery attack on September 29, 2025 in her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja.
Arise News said the deceased will be laid to rest on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
In a video on Saturday, the station said an “evening of tributes will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at the THISDAY Dome, Central Business District, Abuja”.
“This will be followed by a service of songs on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the Corpus Christi Cathedral, Kaduna Street, Port Harcourt.”
According to ARISE News, “Her internment in Anambra State on Saturday, October 18, will be preceded by a funeral mass at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Agulu.”

Akpabio, in the statement, titled ‘The Trials and Triumphs of a Resilient Nigeria’s 10th Senate’, said the legislature’s insistence on enforcing its rules was not about silencing dissent but about preserving order and the sanctity of democratic institutions.
“The Senate cannot and will not be held hostage by the disruptive instincts of any of its members.
“Democracy thrives only when its institutions are respected and its rules upheld,” he stated.
Akpabio reiterated that discipline in parliamentary conduct was the hallmark of every advanced democracy, noting that the Nigerian Senate shared the same principles with legislatures in countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia.

NGO Advises FG to Use Carbon Credits to Fund Renewable Energy

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Vectar Energy, has said carbon credits could be the solution to the funding of the nation’s renewable energy plan,
Nigeria is in urgent need of about $40 billion to meet its energy gap, this Vector Energy advised the federal government to tap into carbon credits to fund renewable energy as a solution to the perennial power problem in the country.
Nigeria officially launched its Carbon Market Activation Plan (CMAP) in February 2024 and a supporting policy, the Nigeria Carbon Market Activation Policy (NCMAP), in September 2024, which outlines the strategy to unlock an estimated $2.5 billion market by 2030.
The plan is supported by an inter-governmental committee inaugurated by Vice President Kashim Shettima and aims to accelerate green growth, standardise its carbon market ecosystem, and facilitate international trading under the Paris Agreement
The Founder of Vectar Energy, Deborah Fadeyi, told journalists in Abuja at the maiden EcoWise multi-stakeholder forum under the theme: ‘Trust, Scale, Impact: Unlocking climate finance through carbon credits for Solar in Nigeria’, that there is an essential need for sustainable solutions through converting solar data into real capital via accelerating climate finance and clean energy in Nigeria .
She said, “access to electricity had become a burden, particularly with not less than 8.6 million Nigerians unable to access electricity, amidst power supply.
Fadeyi noted that: “When we go to COP events, we pretty much ask for aid to be able to build climate resilience, which is one key thing for us as a country.
“Having to build climate resilience through access to electricity, not just for day-to-day, but for sustainable industrialisation, then we realise that aids don’t work.
“The conversation of aids doesn’t work. So how about we trade something? This is where carbon credits come in. If we strive to deploy low-carbon renewable projects, is there a way for us to get concessions from that?
“To be able to finance more renewable energy projects, more solar projects, there is a mechanism for that, it is called the Clean Development Mechanisms.”
She explained further, “such mechanisms could bolster Nigeria’s ability to convert solar data or any sort of low-carbon or renewable green energy data into carbon credits.
“Also that carbon credit is sold to corporate buyers such as Amazon, Microsoft, to be able to showcase their net zero confidence as the world progresses to net zero by 2050.”
Speaking at the occasion, the Ambassador of Israel to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, represented by Thelma Agada, the B-Technology Project Manager, commended Vectar Energy to be the result of the partnership between Nigeria and Israel through the establishment of the Innovate Hub.
The envoy said Nigeria has everything it takes to lead Africa’s clean energy transformation through vast sunlight, abundant natural resources and most importantly, a young, talented, determined population.
“The challenge and the opportunity lies in connecting innovation to implementation and ideas to investment. This forum is exactly the kind of platform that makes such connections possible.
“This brings together government, private sector, academia and development partners, the four pillars that most work hand-in-hand if we can and will achieve the lasting impact.”
Freeman said, “Let me also assure you that Israel stands ready to partner with you on this journey, whether it is through technology transfer, capacity building or joint ventures in renewable energy infrastructure.”
On her part, the Vice President, Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria, Damilola Asaleye, commended the launch of the EcoWise platform by Vectar Energy, to be innovative platform that is needed currently in Nigeria and Africa at large.
She described EcoWise as a platform that is locally built by a Nigerian to bolster sustainable solutions in the renewable energy sector and to enable Africans to have access to climate finance.
She said, “We can have access to environmental finance and then, we can turn all the data from our solar installations right now in Nigeria, we can turn this into revenue through the climate credits.
“I am glad that a private sector organisation is actually taking the bull by the horn to implement this climate finance platform right now, whereby we can convert climate, environmental data into revenue.
“We do not have to wait for the government for everything to be done. We private sector owners too need to step up to the game and ensure that we have data credibility,” Asaleye said.

A community leader in Afaraukwu Umuahia, Abia State, the hometown of Nnamdi Kanu, Chief Ikechukwu Ndubueze, has said the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, is still in detention because of the disobedience of court orders by the Nigerian government.
Ndubueze, the President General Emeritus of Afaraukwu Umuahia, made the assertion in a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday.
In the statement titled ‘Kanu, Sowore and the lies of Charles Ogbu’, Ndubueze countered claims made by a public affairs analyst, Ogbu, concerning the planned protest march to the Presidential Villa to demand Kanu’s release.
Ogbu had, in a write-up titled ‘Kanu, Sowore’s protest and the rest of us’, claimed that the planned protest march could delay Kanu’s release. However, Ndubueze insisted that the courts are not responsible for the IPOB leader’s continued detention. He also faulted Ogbu’s claims that Kanu was behind the insecurity in the South-East.
The statement read, “The whole truth about Kanu’s case: Charles Ogbu wants people to believe that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s matter is just a normal court case that is being delayed by his lawyers. That is a lie.
“The truth is this: the Appeal Court already discharged Kanu since October 2022. The judges said the way he was kidnapped from Kenya and brought to Nigeria was illegal and that no Nigerian court has the power to try him again. So there is no trial that anybody is “delaying”. What is keeping Kanu in detention now is disobedience to court order by the government. If this country was normal, he would have been home long ago.”
Ndubueze also faulted Ogbu’s comparison of Kanu’s trial to that of Simon Ekpa in Finland.
“Finland is not Nigeria: Ogbu compared Finland’s quick trial of Simon Ekpa to Kanu’s case. That makes no sense. Finland did not kidnap Ekpa or torture him. Their courts obey the law. Nigeria’s leaders do not. So stop comparing a clean country to a lawless one,” Ndubueze said.
The community leader backed the planned protest march being organized by Sowore.
Ndubueze added, “Sowore has the right to protest:Ogbu said Sowore’s protest will “delay Kanu’s release”. That is another trick to discourage people from speaking out. Protest is a human right. Nobody should be afraid to demand justice peacefully. Those who say “don’t protest” are only helping the oppressor to keep doing evil quietly.”
Disputing Ogbu’s views on the insecurity in the South-East, the statement said, “Who really caused the insecurity in the South-East? Let’s face facts. When Kanu was outside Nigeria, there was peace in the South-East. People went to markets and schools freely. The killing and burning started after the government refused to release him and sent soldiers all over Igboland.
“That was when the so-called “unknown gunmen” appeared. Many of them were government agents sent to paint the East as violent so that people would hate Kanu. Amnesty International and other groups reported this. So how can anyone blame Kanu for something that started after he was locked up?
“The fake “broadcast” story: Ogbu said he has Kanu’s videos where he told people to kill others. If truly such videos exist, why didn’t the government bring them to court since 2015? Not one judge has ever seen any genuine recording like that. Was it not the army that invaded Kanu’s house and killed 28 people that caused Kanu to flee Nigeria? Charles Ogbu is this true or false? Did TY Danjuma, DGSS Tosin Ajayi ask people to defend themselves? But it’s Kanu you singled out because you suffer from the same Igbo disease you complain about without it. It is called envy and jealousy.
“What the security people like you did was to cut and twist Kanu’s old speeches to make him look bad. That is propaganda. Ogbu saying “I have it on my phone” is not evidence. Bring it to court. So you want Kanu to say you should buy flowers for killers of innocent citizens just because they were protesting. Anyone can fake a clip.”
Distancing Kanu from the sit-at-home, which has grounded economic activities in the South-East, Ndubueze said, “The Monday Sit-at-Home lies: Ogbu also claimed that Kanu ordered the Monday sit-at-home. That is false and a black lie and you know it. The sit-at-home started after Kanu was taken away. It was Simon Ekpa who brought that madness, not Kanu. You claim you have videos of Kanu on your phone, but you don’t have the one of him in court calling for an end to sit at home. You don’t have the videos of him in court saying repeatedly that if he is released insecurity would stop within two days? You didn’t hear IPOB leaders say many times that no more sit at home? You are a liar and deceiver and people like you can’t legitimately claim they are Igbo by blood.
“It was the anger and hopelessness of people after seeing Kanu’s unlawful detention that made some youths listen to Ekpa and you know this. So again, the root of the problem is injustice, not Kanu. Many people know that Charles Ogbu has long worked for Ike Ekweremadu and other politicians who betrayed the same Igbo people they claim to serve. Remember when IPOB members in Germany challenged Ekweremadu in 2019? Since that day, Ogbu has never forgiven them.
“That is why he now attacks Kanu — to please his political masters and to get favor from Abuja. His article is not about truth. It is about bitterness and envy.”
Ndubueze went ahead to identify those he described as the real enemies of the Igbo.
“The real enemies of the Igbo people
Igbos are their own worst enemies indeed. You are right, but not in the way you think. The real enemies of Igbos are: The governors who called soldiers to shoot their own youths. The politicians who proscribed IPOB instead of defending their people. The writers and talkers like Ogbu who help the oppressors by spreading lies.
These are the people who sold Igboland for crumbs. Not Kanu.
“What Kanu really stood for: Before his arrest, Kanu woke up many young Igbos and Nigerians at large. He taught them that they have rights and should not live like slaves in their own land. That message scared corrupt leaders. That is why you and corrupt politicians joined the Federal Government to silence him. He may not be perfect — no human being is — but his message was clear: freedom, justice, and dignity for his people.
“Charles Ogbu’s write-up is not about peace; it is about confusing people. He blames the victim and praises those who caused the problem. But time will tell. History will remember Kanu the way it remembers Herbert Macaulay, Nnamdi Azikiwe, and all who were once called rebels but later celebrated as heroes. And history will remember Charles Ogbu and his type as men who used their pen to defend oppression. I feel sorry for those listening to him.”`

The Osun State House of Assembly has called for the immediate unsealing of the offices of the Amotekun Corps, allegedly locked up by police officers probing the role of the outfit in the killing of residents of Akinlalu community in the state.
Operatives of the Intelligence Response Team from the office of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, reportedly sealed operational bases of Osun Amotekun in Osogbo and Ife Central Local Government Area.
The police team was said to have been deployed to the state after public outcry over the killing of Akinlalu residents by Amotekun operatives.
DAILY POST recalls that no fewer than 20 Amotekun operatives in Osun State were on Wednesday arrested by the police in connection with the killings that occurred in Akinlalu last week Tuesday.
The police squad arrested the Amotekun operatives at the Oke Fia, Osogbo Operational Base of the Corps and at the Ife Central Division located in Ile-Ife.
Confirming the arrests, the Osun Amotekun spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu, said some operatives were apprehended in connection with the incident that occurred in Akinlalu.
However, the Osun State Police Command, in response, said only five operatives of the Amotekun Corps were arrested.
In a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, the police said the Inspector General of Police had taken over the investigation, adding that the Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Adekunle Omoyele, was invited to explain his role in the killings but refused to honour the invitation.
Speaking to newsmen on Friday in Osogbo, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, on behalf of other lawmakers, said Amotekun, being an organisation created by law, could not be stopped by the police from performing its statutory duties.
He said that reports at his disposal linked the lawmaker representing Osun East in the Senate, Adenigba Fadahunsi, to the involvement of police operatives from the IGP’s office in the arrest of Amotekun personnel in the state.
“The House empathises with concerned families and individuals in Akinlalu who have been affected by the recent incidents involving security operations.
“While the House does not condone misconduct or impunity by any security organisation, allegations of wrongdoing must be investigated transparently and in accordance with the law and must not be used as a smokescreen to sabotage duly constituted institutions,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Fadahunsi confirmed that he invited the police, urging the House of Assembly to exercise caution in its claims that laws enacted by it could shield the Amotekun, even when its operatives had allegedly violated the Constitution.
According to him, those killed were his constituents, warning that any further attempts to cause loss of lives in the Osun East Senatorial District would be resisted.
“The Osun Amotekun office has become the home of murderers, not protectors of the community.
“The Amotekun officers are disturbing the peace of the state. The Corps is supposed to protect the territorial integrity of the state, not to start terrorising people,” the senator said.
