Gongola Peoples Forum inaugurates elders council
The Gongola Peoples Forum, a socio-cultural movement of ethnic nationalities in and around Adamawa State, has inaugurated a 34-member Council of Elders.
The forum, which was launched last year and has been gaining rising fame across much of the North East, seeks generally to rally the people of the old Gongola State, now Adamawa and Taraba states.
The Council of Elders, inaugurated in Yola on Saturday, comprises eminent personalities who have been charged with being the think-tank of the forum.
Members of the Council of Elders include a former Adamawa State governor, Bala Ngilari, retired General Bitrus Kwaji, Hajiya Zainab Maina, Mrs Titi Malik, General Haldu Anthony Hananiya (retd), Col Andrawus Sawa (retd), Mr Benson Atanga, and Mr Caleb Tabwasah.
The others are Chief Joel Hammajoda Madaki, Mr Festus Donato, Mr Maliki Daniel, Musa Jekeko, Lawrence Ngbale, Chief Medan, Prof Istifanus Zabadi, Alhaji Kasheem Njidda, Mr Polycarp Kaigama Sopkonso, Martins Babale, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Senator Amos K. Yohanna, and Engr Babachir Lawal.
Markus Gundiri, DIG Philemon Leha (retd), Senator Ishaku Abbo, Engr Yusuf Audu, Hon Justice Bemare Bansi (retd), General Lawrence Ngubane (retd), former Governor Umaru Jibrilla Bindow, Chief David Barau, Senator Binos D. Yaroe, and Chief Dan Leonard Nzadon are also members.
In inaugurating the Council of Elders, the National Chairman of the forum, Markus Gundiri, said they were carefully selected, and each local government area in Adamawa State was equally represented.
“Today, as we meet to inaugurate the Elders Council, we remember such legends as Mallam Yerima Balla, Jonah Asadugu, Philip Maken, Gayus Gilama, Abubakar Barde, Ambassador Wilberforce Bafte Juta, Dr Bala Takaya, Senator Paul Wampana, among others, who must be smiling today as they see the breakthrough we have made in our age-old struggle for self-determination,” Gundiri said.
General Halidu Anthony Hananiya (retd), who is designated as the national leader of the forum, said he was delighted by the activities of the socio-cultural organisation, adding that their inauguration was a call to duty.

Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, and Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, on Saturday visited the scene of the petrol tanker explosion in Niger State, describing the incident as devastating and sad.
Reports said about 50 people were burnt to death, with others injured in their attempt to scoop petrol from the fallen petrol-laden tanker, which exploded in the process.
In a statement by his spokesman, Rafiu Ajakaye, on the incident, the NGF chairman expressed shock at the scale of the casualties and the magnitude of the burns suffered by the survivors.
“The Forum is saddened by the petrol tanker explosion in Niger State, in which dozens of people have been killed or injured,” according to the statement.
The Forum extended its heartfelt condolences to Governor Umar Bago of Niger State, the families who have lost loved ones, and our other compatriots who were injured in the explosion.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who lost their loved ones in the incident, and we wish those injured a swift recovery.
“Again, we call on our compatriots to act with extreme caution and absolute respect for life at all times, especially in times of grave danger such as during a petrol spill.
“The Forum prays for the repose of the souls of the deceased victims,” the statement added.

Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the spokesperson for Governor Senator Ademola Adeleke, verified that the suspects are linked to Boko Haram and the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP).
Rasheed highlighted that the state government would keep working alongside security agencies and reinforcing their initiatives to guarantee the safety and well-being of Osun residents.

A newly discovered sect, reportedly engaged in global human trafficking, has been revealed in Kaduna State, based on recent intelligence reports.
The organization, referred to as ACHAD Life Mission International, is reported to be enlisting members both in Nigeria and overseas. The head of the sect, Mr. Yokana, lives in Jos, Plateau State, and the sect’s headquarters is based in Kaduna.
Significantly, the sect dismisses both Islam and Christianity, focusing instead on the resurgence of African customs and encouraging humanitarian aid. Nevertheless, intelligence agencies have associated the group with illegal activities including human trafficking and the separation of children from their parents.
On January 14, 2025, the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) released a circular named “Emergence of New Sect ACHAD Life Mission International,” signed by CIS A.A. Aridegbe, the Principal Staff Officer to the Comptroller-General of NIS. The circular stated:
“I have been instructed to notify you that information obtained by the service indicates the rise of a new group known as ACHAD Life Mission International.”
The intelligence assessments suggest that the sect is based in Kaduna, whereas its leader, Mr. Yokana, lives in Jos, Plateau State.
The reports also emphasize that the sect does not follow Islam or Christianity, but rather promotes the revival of African traditions and backing for humanity.
“Moreover, intelligence indicates that the group has been enlisting members both locally and abroad, and could be engaged in actions like human trafficking and child separation.”
“Due to the seriousness of these actions, you are directed to stay alert and promptly notify us of any indications of the sect’s participation.” Where relevant, arrests ought to be conducted, and updates given as necessary. “This is for your awareness and diligent adherence.”
The circular has been sent out to all NIS Directorates, Zones, Training Institutions, and State Commands.

Former Chief of Staff to the late Head of State, Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, has said that efforts to bring the North back on the path of progress “would hurt people.”
This was as he disclosed that efforts are ongoing to unite and get the North back on track.
Al-Mustapha made this disclosure while addressing journalists on the sidelines of an event in memory of Sir Ahmadu Bello in Kaduna.
He said it would be wrong for them to sit idly and watch the North decay.
According to Al-Mustapha: “It is better to hurt people and get it back on course for us to achieve what we desire, so that the country, in the end, would be the beneficiary of the unity in the North.
“Institutions in the 19 Northern states are either weak or not there at all. We are seeing gaps that are responsible for the social ills bedevilling the North.
“Therefore, identifying the problems and, rather than seeing succour, we would always continue to see the crime rate increase, which is a capital shame.
“We cannot sit and say we are from the North and continue to see institutions decay, the crime rate increase, leaders indifferent, younger ones in disarray, and believe that is the right environment to be in.
“We intend to get the North back on track and unified. To do so, we know we would hurt people. It is better to hurt people and get it back on course for us to achieve what we desire, so that the country, in the end, would be the beneficiary of the unity in the North.”
