In his inaugural speech, the 78-year-old vowed to prioritise Americans above all else.
He declared that the era of America’s decline was over, pledging that his administration would act swiftly to restore hope to Americans.
The Republican also vowed to usher in a new era of American greatness, saying that he would sign a raft of executive actions in his first hours in office.
Trump, who returned to the White House for the second time after being defeated in 2020, said God saved him during the assassination attempt on his life to come and make America great again.
Similarly, Trump vowed to embrace trade wars, pledging to impose tariffs and taxes on other countries.
“I will immediately begin the overhaul of our trade system to protect American workers and families. Instead of taxing our citizens to enrich other countries, we will tariff and tax foreign countries to enrich our citizens,” Trump said.
Speaking further, the newly inaugurated US president said he would deport millions of criminal aliens who have entered the United States illegally.
“All illegal entries will be immediately halted, and we will begin the process of returning millions of criminal aliens back to the places from which they came,” Trump declared in the presence of four former presidents, including Biden.
He noted that his government would move swiftly to bring back hope to Americans, reiterating that he would immediately sign executive orders to protect US borders.
“The golden age of America began right now. From this day, America will flourish.
“I will very simply put Americans first,” he stated.

A Professor of Political Science, Bolaji Akinyemi, has advised President Bola Tinubu to avoid confrontation with the newly inaugurated 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump.
Akinyemi gave this advice on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Monday.
“If I were President Tinubu, I would try to steer clear of antagonising him because there is nothing a bully likes more than taking on people who are not strong enough to resist him.
“You know there is that African proverb that if you are not strong enough to take on a bully and you challenge him, you will only suffer more for it.
“That’s the advice I would give President Tinubu: try to avoid having a confrontation with him, even if that means he does things that annoy or step on the interests of Nigeria. There are ways in which you could address his actions without confrontation,” he said.
The university don, who is a former Director General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs. NIIA, described Trump’s inaugural speech as uninspiring, shocking, and depressing.
According to him, rather than rallying the world for peace, Trump used his speech to threaten the rest of the world with a bouquet of hostile policies, including taking back the Panama Canal, renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, and engaging in tariff wars, among others.

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, said the criticism of Kemi Badenoch, leader of the UK’s Conservative Party, about Nigeria is aimed at gaining acceptance from her party.
DAILY POST recalls that last week, Badenoch said she does not want the consequences of terrible governments like Nigeria to play out in Britain.
Badenoch, who spoke on the significance of building trust and touting the Conservative Party as the right group to fix Britain, likened the possibility of the UK becoming like Nigeria if the system is not reformed.
Responding, Bwala, speaking on Monday on Sunrise Daily, a programme on Channels Television, refuted claims that Badenoch’s remarks about Nigeria would affect the country’s international relations or efforts to attract investors.
“I don’t think it would have an effect because she’s not the government in power. Usually, these international relationships or collaborations are dealings between governments.
“Because she’s not the government in power, it will not have any effect. Secondly, because she’s a Nigerian, investors will be smart enough to assess what she’s saying, whether it is born out of rhetoric,” Bwala said.
While acknowledging Badenoch’s achievements in the UK, Bwala added that she is capitalising on populism that thrives on public discontent and feeds on people’s anger.
“The only problem we have with Kemi, I think, is the rhetoric because Kemi belongs to the right base in the United Kingdom, which is what you see in this populism around the world. You can deepen your support system if you can feed off the anger of the people,” he said.
“So she’s building a rhetoric of denigrating Nigeria, demarketing Nigeria, so she can probably win the acceptance or approval of the rights in her party,” he added.
