Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies to safeguard lives and property across the state.
The pledge was made during a courtesy visit by Mrs. Elizabeth Kayode Egbetokun, wife of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and President of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), who led the association’s executive members to the Governor’s office.
In a statement by Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, Director-General of Media and Publicity at Kano Government House, Governor Yusuf emphasized his government’s unwavering support for the police, particularly through the provision of logistics and operational vehicles.
“The security of lives and property is critical to the well-being and progress of our people,” the Governor stated. “We remain steadfast in supporting the police and other security agencies to ensure a secure and peaceful Kano State.”
Governor Yusuf commended Mrs. Egbetokun for her dedication to improving the welfare of police officers and their families, praising her initiatives as aligned with the national efforts led by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu to empower women across the country.
As a demonstration of his administration’s support, the Governor approved land allocation and financial aid for the construction of a POWA Secretariat in Kano.
Earlier, Mrs. Egbetokun briefed the Governor on POWA’s ongoing activities in Kano, including an empowerment program and the commissioning of a health center in Panshekara.
She applauded the Kano State Government’s efforts in empowering women and called for stronger collaboration to enhance the welfare and economic stability of POWA members, ensuring a secure and prosperous future for their families.

Following the recent criminal activities, vandalism and theft of public infrastructure in some parts of the country, the Ogun State government has disclosed plans to constitute a special taskforce.
The taskforce will include Security Agencies, Local Government Officials, Community Leaders and Traditional Rulers in all the 20 Local Government Areas of the State.
The Special Adviser/General Manager, Ogun State Public Works Agency, Babatunde Adesina, disclosed this while fielding questions from newsmen in Abeokuta on Monday.
Adesina explained that the step was to further strengthen the security architecture in the state and promote sense of belonging of the people.
He said, “What informed our decision to set-up this special task force is as a result of happenings in the country, where some criminals under the guise of scavengers steal public infrastructure.
“As a responsive government, we will not fold our arms and allow anyone under whatever guise destroy and steal public infrastructure anymore.’’
He noted that road and infrastructure were catalyst to development and that the Abiodun-led administration had made infrastructure one of his uppermost priority.
“The Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun is doing everything possible to create opportunity for its citizenry through infrastructure development and will not hesitate to deal decisively with anyone caught stealing public facilities”, he added.
Adesina pointed out that in Abeokuta metropolis, failed sections of pothole would be attended to, in Ijebu axis, the agency had completed pothole patching of Mobalufon-Efinrin-Imowo road-Lagos/Ibadan Garage, while in the West, the agency had completed pothole patching of Ansarudeen-Oju-Ore, Ilo-Awela-Toll gate.
He maintained that the people, especially the motorists and road users, needed to be educated on maintenance culture on roads and other public facilities.

Troops from Sector 7 of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have successfully arrested a notorious gunrunner and his accomplice, seizing a significant cache of arms and ammunition during an operation in Kaduna State.
The operation, based on intelligence gathered, took place on Sunday, January 20, and led to the capture of 62-year-old Timothy Yusuf and his son, Timothy Obadiah, in Fadiya Village, located in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area.
According to Zagazola Makama, the troops recovered 11 fabricated rifles, two AK-47 magazines, and 60 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.
“The suspects, along with the seized weapons and ammunition, are currently in custody for further investigation. Efforts are also underway to locate and apprehend other members of the gunrunning syndicate,” a source stated.

DAILY POST gathered that Trump signed a few other executive orders in front of the crowd at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., a few hours after being inaugurated as the 47th president of the United States, including the revocation of nearly 80 executive orders from the Biden administration.
“I’m revoking nearly 80 destructive radical executive actions of the previous administration,” Trump said.
The 78-year-old, who returned to the White House for the second time signed an executive order to delay the TikTok ban imposed by the Biden administration by 75 days to permit my Administration an opportunity to determine the appropriate course of action with respect to TikTok.
The Republican also signed an executive order that will let the United States withdraw from the World Health Organisation.
Trump also declared a national energy emergency in an executive order with an eye on driving down energy costs.
As the first of this kind declared by the U.S. Federal Government, the emergency is expected to enable the government to crank up energy production by tapping emergency powers.
DAILY POST reports that the United States is the largest producer of both crude oil and natural gas in the world and is also the top exporter of Liquified Natural Gas, LNG, globally.
The newly inaugurated president also signed an executive order to pull the United States out of the Paris climate accord.
This means that the United States will pull out of the Paris climate accord for the second time.
During his swearing-in speech, Trump, who has long regarded clean energy as expensive and wasteful, also vowed to redouble the efforts to extract and utilise fossil fuels.
“I will also declare a national energy emergency. We will drill, baby, drill.
“We have something that no other manufacturing nation will ever have — the largest amount of oil and gas of any country on Earth,” Trump claimed. “And we are going to use it,” he said.
Adopted in December 2015, the Paris Agreement is an international endeavour to tackle human-caused global warming and related crises, which the United States formally joined in September 2016.
The first Trump administration officially let the United States, one of the world’s top emitters of greenhouse gases, exit the Paris climate accord in November 2020, dealing a major blow to international efforts to combat the climate crisis.
The latest executive order among many others by Trump will mark another round of back-and-forth moves regarding the U.S. commitment to dealing with climate change on the global stage.
Joe Biden, who succeeded Trump to become the 46th U.S. president in 2021, signed an executive order on Jan. 20, 2021 — his first day in office — to bring the United States back into the Paris climate accord.

NASS summons Finance, Budget ministers over paltry allocation to Solid minerals sector
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Economy, Wale Edun, and his counterpart in Budget, Senator Abubakar Bagudu have been summoned by the National Assembly over paltry allocation to the Solid Minerals Sector in the 2025 Budget.
Their summon to appear before the joint Committee- Senate and House of Representatives on Tuesday was to give further clarification on concerns about inadequate funding of the Solid Minerals sector considered to be critical to diversification of the nation’s economy.
The Joint Committee added that the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Mr. Tanimu Yakubu, should also appear before it.
The committee, jointly chaired by Sen. Ekong Samson and Hon Gaza Jonathan, spoke after the Minister of Solid Minerals, Mr Dele Alake, appeared before the lawmakers on Monday to express the frustrations he had faced fighting hard to increase the budgetary allocations to the ministry without success.
Alake lamented how Nigeria continued to get things wrong by leaving the development of solid minerals behind in revenue generation, stressing that his frantic effort could only get N5 billion envelope.
“In fact, to let you know, the envelope we first received was N5 billion. I don’t know if you are aware of that. It was N5 billion” ,he informed the members.
Alake disclosed that when he stepped up mounting pressure on the ministers and the DG budget after President Bola Tinubu presented the estimates to the National Assembly, he was reassured that the allocation would be increased substantially only to just N9bn.
“The Permanent Secretary is here and the night before the president came here, when we were working on the rehearsal of the budget speech, the Director of Budget came in and the Minister of Budget and I took them up in the presence of the President.
“And what did they do? They promised that it would be done. So, again the following day, after the President’s presentation, we found N9billion”, he stated.
“There is no way that I can begin to tell you, except I have videos that I can show you of the several engagements that we had with the relevant budgetary authorities and individuals driving this process and at every turn we received very positive responses,” he stated.
