Traditional rulers colluding with external forces to perpetuate insecurity in Benue – Gov Alia

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has accused some traditional rulers of colluding with external forces to perpetuate insecurity in the state.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the governor said the intention of the troublemakers is “for their collaborators to cash in on the situation for cheap blackmail.”

Reacting to a recent outburst by his predecessor, Samuel Ortom, who claimed that Alia was playing politics with people’s lives, the governor declared that he is “committed to finding solutions rather than just talking about the problems.”

Part of the statement read: “It does not surprise us that this diatribe is coming from those who instigated the very security challenges that Governor Alia is now doing everything possible to eliminate.

“Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia is committed to finding solutions rather than just discussing the problems.

“We are fully aware that some traditional rulers are colluding with external forces to sustain insecurity in the state, allowing their collaborators to exploit the situation for cheap blackmail.

“Governor Alia’s actions so far demonstrate a genuine commitment to improving security and fostering a peaceful environment in Benue State.

“He deserves support rather than unfounded accusations or the politicisation of the situation. And the last person who should be criticising the governor in this regard is Mr Samuel Ortom.”
