The Nigeria Police Force said it has repatriated a high-profile Chinese fugitive, Mr. Dai Qisheng, to the People’s Republic of China.

The development was announced in a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Sunday.

According to the statement, the operation, coordinated through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau, NCB, Abuja, was executed in collaboration with INTERPOL NCB Beijing and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, marking a milestone in international policing cooperation.

Dai, a notorious gang leader wanted for orchestrating violent organized crimes in Guizhou Province, fled China in 2024 after an arrest warrant was issued by the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County.

He had been on the run until INTERPOL operatives in Nigeria tracked and arrested him in Abuja on August 8, 2025.

Following his arrest, the fugitive was repatriated to Beijing on August 15, 2025, under a police-to-police cooperation framework facilitated by INTERPOL.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, hailed the successful operation as a testament to the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to global security and justice.

“This operation sends a clear message to criminals worldwide: Nigeria will not be a safe haven for fugitives,” the IGP said.

He emphasized the importance of intelligence-sharing, operational collaboration, and strong international alliances in combating modern transnational crime networks.

The statement added that the operation highlights Nigeria’s resolve to uphold the rule of law and contribute meaningfully to global security through effective law enforcement partnerships.

The people of Egwe autonomous community in Oguta LGA of Imo State have staged a protest rejecting what they described as an unlawful encroachment and forceful takeover of their ancestral land by the local council.

The protest followed a public notice issued by the Oguta Local Council Authority, through the chairman of the Committee on Land Recovery, Nwamkpa Modestus, restraining the community from entering and making use of the land.

The land was formerly designated as Oruru-Government Station Layout during the administration of former governor of the state, Sam Mbakwe. The planned layout was, however, not implemented.

The public notice further directed that individuals who own land in the particular area should come to the local government council headquarters with their original documents for verification.

Speaking with our correspondent, the land Committee Chairman of the Community, Mr. Vitus Onwudiwe said the land in question was only designated to be used as station layout but the plan was not implemented.

He maintained that there are no documents available to the government to back up its claim of ownership of the land.

“Where is government survey plan and documentation of this said land?
Who and who signed and handed over this said land to government and under which conditions was it signed?” He asked.

Onwudiwe further asked if there was any perimeter survey inorder to ascertain how many hectares of land was involved and if there was any MoU or written agreement between the government, the community and individual landowners.

Onwudiwe, alongside Egwe Progressive Union, EPU, hinted that the owners have been making use of that particular land without any hindrance until the recent publication purportedly issued from the local council authority.

He further maintained that the community, as stakeholders, should be in the know of whatever is being discussed about the land, rather than being taken unaware.

Onwudiwe avowed that the community will take every necessary action within the law to resist attempts by any person or group trying to takeover their land in the guise of government.

He accused the local government authority of trying to use the name of the state government to take their land for personal interest.

“If government is interested in taking our land for the general wellbeing of the people, there is nothing wrong about it, but due process must be followed and the host community must have MOU with genuine government officials from the Ministry of Lands,” he said.

He disclosed that the community, through their lawyer, has written to Governor Hope Uzodinma, the State Ministry of Lands and the State Housing Corporation, informing them of what they described as an abnormal development.

A law firm, Barrister Isa Buba and Associates, has petitioned the Taraba State Government, calling for a thorough investigation into alleged irregular promotions and credential fraud within the Office of the Local Government Auditor-General.

In a formal letter addressed to the Head of Civil Service, Ahmed Kara, on Sunday, the firm urged immediate action to address what it described as a growing pattern of administrative irregularities.

According to the petition, insider reports suggest that unqualified personnel have been elevated to senior roles including Grade Levels 15, 16 and 17 as well as director positions, in violation of the civil service rules.

The legal firm acknowledged Kara’s efforts to promote professionalism in the state’s civil service since his appointment but emphasized that recent developments threaten to erode public trust and institutional integrity.

The petition note6 that civil service guidelines stipulate a minimum of four years of meritorious service before one becomes eligible for promotion to higher grades.

Isa Buba and Associates allege that certain individuals have circumvented these rules, securing key roles without the requisite experience or qualifications.

This, the firm argue, has sidelined more qualified candidates with MSc degrees and professional certifications from bodies such as the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, ANAN, and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN.

The firm called for a comprehensive review of the promotion records and academic credentials of all principal officers appointed within the last five years, warning that failure to act could entrench a culture of mediocrity and nepotism.

The letter further expressed concern over alleged manipulation of credentials and grade levels by some staff ahead of the impending retirement of the current Auditor-General for Local Government.

The firm also claims that unqualified personnel may be maneuvering to position themselves as potential successors, possibly at the expense of more competent and deserving candidates.

Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno has announced plans to support Comfort Emmanson, the embattled passenger who was involved in a face-off with Ibom Air.

The governor equally pledged support for the airline, which is owned by Akwa Ibom State government.

Emmanson is also an indigene of Akwa Ibom.

Eno, who did not disclose the nature of the planned support, said Emmanson and the the airline “belong to Akwa Ibom State hence should be supported”.

Recall that Emmanson following her altercation with the crew members was remanded and later pardoned by the aviation minister, Festus Keyamo.

She claimed in an interview that she had been traumatized and unable to move around and interact with people any longer as her body had been unduly exposed .

Speaking during a grand reception held for him at his home local government area – Nsit Ubium – on Saturday, Eno advised that Akwa Ibom people should not join the fray in apportioning blames either to the airline or the passenger, who he said might have made mistakes.

He said, “We will continue to support our flagship airline , the Ibom Air. Every Akwa Ibom person should be proud of the airline which has flown our colours.

“Our money is invested in Ibom Air, so you should be proud of the airline. If there was any crisis, do not join issues with others who are spoilers because they don’t love good things. Whatever had transpired, we will solve the problem. It was a small mistake, both parties belong to us. The lady is our daughter. When two people fight, there is always the third person to separate the fight.”
