Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has held a breakfast meeting with the five presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at his private residence in Nima, Accra, on Tuesday, 21 October 2025.
The meeting, according to a statement issued by the Office of the Former President and signed by his spokesperson, Fatimatu Abubakar, was aimed at fostering unity and camaraderie among the aspirants ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for 31 January 2026.
It also formed part of efforts to build consensus and strengthen internal cohesion as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general elections.
In his remarks, former President Akufo-Addo expressed gratitude to the aspirants for taking time out of their busy campaign schedules to attend the meeting. He said their presence demonstrated “a shared commitment to the collective good and future prospects of the NPP.”
The former President reminded the gathering that he has worked closely with each of the aspirants and holds them in high esteem, noting that their candidacies are based on merit and their significant contributions to both the party and the nation. He further encouraged them to run issue-based campaigns that focus on “presenting their visions to party delegates in a healthy and respectful manner.”
Akufo-Addo emphasised that his primary commitment remains to the unity of the NPP, the credibility of the electoral process, and the goal of building “a properly energised and rallied party, fully prepared to secure victory in the 2028 elections.”
In a show of solidarity, all five aspirants pledged to maintain a healthy but competitive campaign environment and to rally behind whoever emerges as the eventual winner of the primaries. They also reaffirmed their commitment to uphold the unity of the party beyond the internal contest.
The former President thanked them for their positive engagement and urged the party’s leadership to ensure a credible and transparent process that would preserve the NPP’s unity after the primaries.
The meeting was attended by key party figures, including Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, Chairman of the NPP Council of Elders; Danquah Smith Buttey, Acting National Chairman of the NPP; Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary of the party; Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Minority Leader; and Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, former Chief of Staff at the Office of the President.
The presidential aspirants present were Ken Ohene Agyapong, Bryan Acheampong, Mahamudu Bawumia, Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.
