A fake employment syndicate in Adamawa State has been smashed by the police.
The Adamawa State Police Command indicated this in a statement obtained by the DAILY POSt on Tuesday morning, announcing that arrests had been made.
In the statement signed by the police spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, the police said, “On 29/06/2024, the Adamawa State Police Command received a complaint from Dr. Suleiman Saidu Bashir, Executive Chairman of the Adamawa State Primary Health Care Agency (ADSPHCA), that certain individuals were impersonating Adamawa State Government agents, demanding and extorting money from innocent citizens by issuing them fake letters of employment.”
Nguroje said the state Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, reacted by directing the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Intelligence, to investigate and report.
He said this action led to the first arrest of Muhammed Ahmed Attahir, 31 years old, and Abdulrahman Bashir Ahmad, 23 years old, both residents of Rabe Street in the Bako Ward of Yola South Local Government Area.
According to him, the investigation further led to the arrest of Bello A. Suleiman, 59, a staff officer at the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Yola, for allegedly aiding the crime.
Nguroje stated that before their arrest, the suspects had issued fake letters of appointment to about 10 people, collected ₦400,000 from each of them, and directed them to an office at the Fiscal Responsibility Commission for alleged data capture.
“One HP laptop, a thumbprint machine, and four fake appointment letters were recovered from the suspects and are now treated as exhibits,” Nguroje stated.
